Mains Renewal/ Rehabilitation/ Trenchless
Efficiently working mains fixtures are the backbone of water distribution systems
and ultimately performance is affected by a number of factors, e.g. corrosion,
temperature, soil moisture.
Significant areas of the country are still being served by cast iron mains dating back to Victorian times. Often single mains systems supply many tens of thousands of properties in a locality.
Each year Lewis Civil Engineering engages in millions of pounds worth of mains renewals covering thousands of kilometres helping to improve security of supply, minimise leakage and reduce high maintenance costs. Again we use the latest technologies available including trenchless operations and hydraulic pipe-pushing machines - lightweight plant capable of inserting several metres of pipe per minute enabling large sections of work to be carried out in one go. Each machine is capable of handling a variety of pipe diameters.
Our expertise in mains renewal extends to value-added knowledge on behalf of our clients in analysis of breakage, short-term operational forecasting and long-term renewal planning. This helps to create a strategy for complete mains replacement/investment as opposed to continual locate and repair actions.
